What is Northern Links?

Northern Links is a week long annual Recreation & Wellness Workshop sponsored by the Province of Manitoba – Aboriginal and Northern Affairs. Northern Links is geared for the people working with recreation, sport or wellness programs from aboriginal communities or organizations. Northern Links provides the participants with interactive sessions that will enable them to return to their communities with enhanced skills and understanding to perform their jobs more effectively.
This year will be the 10th Annual Northern Links Workshop and the theme for the workshop is
“Adventure into Recreation – Hands on Learning”.

Who Should Attend?

Aboriginal communities including Northern Affairs, First Nations, Metis, Friendship Centres, Tribal Councils. The participants can be:

Where and When?

 The workshop will be at CAMP WANNAKUMBAC, MANITOBA situated in the beautiful foothills along the Riding Mountain National Park. A stone’s throw away from Clear Lake, this site also offers a beautiful scenic landscape and a peaceful outdoor environment. Camp Wannakumbac is located about 325 km northwest of Winnipeg and about 85 km south of Dauphin – just a few minutes off Highway #10.
Starting date is Monday afternoon – September 17th
to Friday morning - September 21st, 2007

Driving Directions…..
From Winnipeg – travel west on Highway #1 (TransCanada) past City of Portage (about 45 minutes) then turn Right on Highway # 16 (Yellowhead) stay on this for the 1 ½ hours.
 At the Junction past Minnedosa – turn Right (North) on Highway # 10.
Travel about 20 minutes until you arrive in ONANOLE.
You will see a neon sign for “Northern Links” at the corner of Woods Supermarket  - turn left and travel down this road to the end (the pavement turns to gravel)
Another neon “Northern Links” sign to turn right and travel about 3 miles until the first curve – the last “Northern Links” sign on the right – down the driveway… YOU ARE THERE !!!!! 

What is the Cost?

$ 300 per person includes meals and accommodations for the entire week.
Cheque payable to “Minister of Finance” can be sent with the registration form.
We also accept cash – the participants can bring the money with them. Receipts will be issued.
You are responsible for your travel costs to and from the conference.

Who Will Facilitate?

Sue Holloway will be facilitating the workshop this year. Sue has been involved in the recreation field for over 20 years ranging from working with Aboriginal communities to teaching at Keewatin Community College in Thompson.
Sue lives with her family close to Thunder Bay, Ontario.
